Shakespeare’s all the rage these days, and fresh from Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley is in talks to play Ophelia in an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet from the point of view of the Prince of Denmark’s lover. Adaptation being the operative word here.
She is joined in the cast by Oscar-nominee Naomi Watts, who is due to play Queen Gertrude in the film, based on Lisa Klein’s YA novel. In doing so, it discards the original text of the bard, but keeps the late middle ages setting. Klein’s novel further steps away from the Bard in that Ophelia is secretly married to Hamlet.
This sounds like an interesting film, a bit of a departure but I’ll bite and say I’m intrigued.
