Daredevil‘s premier season was a huge triumph for Marvel, who demonstrated that they were able to make their assets appeal on a broad spectrum to the point where everybody was absorbing their franchise in one way or another. Now Daredevil is back for a second, similarly-gruesome season on Netflix and a new trailer has been released which explores more of the threat Matt Murdock will face.
Accompanied by an eerie soundtrack, we get a closer look at Frank Castle, a.k.a. ‘The Punisher’; a man with special forces training and enough military hardware “to take out half the city.” The actions of Daredevil have allowed such individuals to bubble up to the surface of Hell’s Kitchen and wreak havoc on the city.
We can see that Charlie Cox is still the man in the suit and glasses and that Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Rosario Dawson are all reprising their roles as Karen, Foggy and Claire from the first season; what is new, however, is Élodie Yung as Elektra Natchios: a love interest of Murdock with a violent mercenary history.
As we all know, Marvel has spent the last 8 years establishing its’ cinematic universe. In that time they have introduced beloved characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow and The Hulk and brought them all together as The Avengers.
Although the TV series that have been released on Netflix may seem like small change compared to their cinematic aspirations, filler material while we wait for the main events, do not be deceived; Marvel have big plans for their TV series’ too.
So far they have done series’ based on Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but they also have plans to make series’ on Luke Cage and Iron Fist, providing origin stories before bringing them all together in The Defenders, which will prove to be a much darker affair than The Avengers. Things are only going to get better for Marvel. Daredevil Season 2 will be released on Netflix March 18 and you can check out the new trailer below.
