Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil has been one of the most successful comic-book adaptations to hit screens. Finding a balance between high octane thrills and in depth characterisation, the series’ popularity has opened the door for further adaptations; Jessica Jones will follow on November 20, while Luke Cage is expected next year.
Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight‘s first season introduced us to the corrupt nightscape of Hell’s Kitchen; a Manhattan neighbourhood wrought with violence and greed. Both Matt Murdoch/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin are portrayed as products of this decaying metropolis, each trying to save the city in his own way. Today, the first trailer for season two was leaked shortly after being shown at New York Comic-con, and we have our first preview of what this twisted city can really do to a person.
Season two showrunners, Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, have previously stated that Jon Bernthal‘s character, Frank Castle will serve as the series primary antagonist. Castle, who’s family is lost in a vicious mob slaying, becomes the vigilante The Punisher; a morally ambiguous fan favourite who is willing to kill in his quest for vengeance. We can see a brief glimpse of the character walking through a hospital corridor, ejecting a shell from a shotgun.
Elodie Yung will also be joining the series as Elektra, ex-girlfriend of Murdoch turned assassin. The french actor is a black belt in karate and practiced Muay Thai, her character is expected to cause more trouble for Matt and Karen, who’s relationship will be developed throughout season two. Elektra can be seen fleetingly in the above trailer, donning the mask of her order. Daredevil will return to Netflix in 2016. The series stars Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, and Rosario Dawson. Check out the trailer below (The season two teaser begins at 1:30).
