David Corenswet & Rachel Brosnahan To Play Clark Kent And Lois Lane ‘Superman: Legacy’

After months of audition tapes and in-person screen tests, Warner Bros. and DC Studios have found their new Clark Kent and Lois Lane. David Corenswet is set to play Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan is on board to play Lois Lane in James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy.

The decision came after the two were among the very few selected to test in front of DC co-chairs Peter Safran and Gunn, in full costume and makeup for the parts.

The Superman: Legacy casting process has gone on for months, with new DC heads Safran and Gunn axing Henry Cavill and wanting a thorough search to put their stamp on the reboot of the franchise. With the two leads now locked up, Gunn will now look to fill the shoes of Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor as well as other supporting characters like Clark’s friend Jimmy Olsen.

For Corenswet, the film will mark his first major leading role in a major studio film. He’s previously appeared in projects like Pearl, The Politician, and We Own This City.

Brosnahan is coming off the final season of her career-making role in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which has earned a number of accolades, including an Emmy win.

Superman: Legacy was announced earlier this year when Gunn and Safran laid out their plan for the first phase of this revamped slate, and Superman: Legacy was front and center as the project that would help launch this strategy.

That presentation also included plans for a new Batman film – Batman: The Brave and the Bold – which recently tapped The Flash director Andy Muschietti to direct, as well as The Authority.

This is only the first step in Gunn ans Safran’s new-look DC, and fans will hope they’ve got the casting decisions right. Brosnahan is already quite well known, but the bigger questions will be around Corenswet, who will be an unknown to most people, and stepping into an iconic role. But other actors have gone from nobody to Superman, so let’s hope he can follow in their shoes.

Superman: Legacy is currently set for a worldwide release on July 11, 2025.
