It’s been an eventful day for fans of the upcoming superhero film Doctor Strange. A lot of exciting and interesting tidbits have been made public. So what do we know so far? We know that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing the titular sorcerer, and thanks to EW, we also know that Mads Mikkelsen will be playing the main baddie – because of course. Who else is better adapt?
We have also been blessed with the knowledge that Tilda Swinton will be playing a mystic called the Ancient One while Chiwetel Ejiofor is an associate to the Ancient One called Karl Mordo. Something we don’t know, and the question on everyone’s lips is who will the lovely Rachel McAdams be portraying? In an interview with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Doctor Strange executive producer Stephen Broussard, EW managed to gather a bit of information for us.
According to Feige, “Rachel McAdams plays a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into he role of a sorcerer. She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity”. Broussard elaborated on the part, saying that “Rachel McAdams is sort of [Doctor Strange’s] contemporary in the modern-day New York world, before and after he goes on this crazy journey. So, she sees him before, she sees him after. She’s kind of this audience point of view”.
So does this mean that McAdams will be playing the love interest? I really hope she is given more to do, and that Doctor Strange will take cue from Ant Man where Evangeline Lilly’s character Hope van Dyne didn’t merely react but also took action. Cumberbatch has, however, provided us with some insight, “I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say what the interest is. But if I hit on her more than the Ancient One, put it like that”. Doctor Strange is slated for a November 4, 2016 release.
