Directors For ‘Mama’ Sequel Announced | Film News

The truly terrifying 2013 horror film Mama is getting a sequel, and it is to be directed by Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch (Starry Eyes).

The original film was directed by Andres Muschetti and told the story of two girls, who after being abandoned in a forest for five years, are found and reunited with their fathers brother Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend Annabelle (Jessica Chastain). However, unbeknownst to them, the supernatural entity known only as Mama, that cared for the girls during the five years follows them home and begins to terrorize the family in a bid to get the girls back.

There is currently no plot related information, but as first film had quite a conclusive ending, the sequel will most likely veer away from the original characters, especially since lead actress Jessica Chastain will apparently not be playing a part in the new film. This leaves room for a possible prequel story or even an entirely new family for Mama to horrify.
