Could a new regeneration be in line already? Sadly it’s a possibility, for the current Time Lord actor Peter Capaldi has speculated that series 10 could indeed be his last as the Doctor in BBC’s sci-fi favourite Doctor Who. Currently, Capaldi has starred as the time travelling hero since series 8; whilst making his debut appearance in the 50th anniversary episode entitled The Day of The Doctor back in 2013.
Speaking in an interview with The Telegraph, Capaldi explained that this could be his final series as he does want to explore other roles: “This could be my final year – it’s terrifying. I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things“.
He continued, revealing that he’s actually been considering his regeneration since he started: “there will come a time when this is over. But I knew that when I started. I was thinking about my regeneration scene from the outset. That’s my terrible melancholic nature. When you accept the job you know there’ll come a day, inevitably, when you’ll be saying goodbye“.
Having already committed to series 10, he will be joined by the addition of a new companion, who is currently a complete mystery. For now though, Capaldi is focusing on the Christmas special, deeming it a “festive, light-hearted Christmas afternoon show“. Catch The Husbands of River Song Christmas Day at 5:15pm on BBC One.
