Dwayne Johnson To Star In Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’ | Film News

It worked out well for Pirates of the Caribbean, but considerably less so for The Haunted Mansion and Tomorrowland, and the box office flop status of Brad Bird‘s film from earlier this summer hasn’t stopped Disney moving ahead with a new movie adaptation of another Disneyland theme park ride – Jungle Cruise. After almost a decade in development, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen originally set to star, the film is finally about to set sail with Dwayne Johnson in the lead role.

The screenplay is currently being written by Bad Santa/Focus screenwriters John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, who may possibly direct after being behind the camera three times themselves with I Love you Phillip Morris, Crazy Stupid Love and the aforementioned Focus. Expect Disney to be moving quickly with this one, in the hopes of creating another Pirates franchise.
