Dwayne Johnson probably doesn’t sleep, or perhaps replenishes himself simply by starring in more movies. Alongside signing on for sequels to San Andreas, Fast & Furious, the Rampage video game adaptation, and remakes for Baywatch, Big Trouble In Little China and Jumanji, another project of his has a release date.
Skyscraper, which was previously only described as ‘Die Hard in China’ – how many times has ‘Die Hard in [blank]’ been the pitch for an action film? – now has a confirmed release date of July 13, 2018. Johnson will reteam with his Central Intelligence writer/director, Rawson Marshall Thurber, for the film, now unsurprisingly slotted in at a prime summer movie location.
Johnson shared the news on his Instagram account:
And here’s the synopsis from Universal:
“Global icon Dwayne Johnson leads the cast of Legendary’s Skyscraper as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it”.
“A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building…above the fire line”.
Does this sound like every generic action movie ever? Probably. But, Johnson at least raises drivel into respectable drivel, so maybe Skyscraper can live up to its Die Hard in China comparisons. Or at least be Last Man Standing in China.
