Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, who previously starred together in the Academy Award-winning The Theory Of Everything, are in talks to team up again, this time for Amazon Studios’ The Aeronauts, an action-adventure based on a true story.
Redmayne would play the role of scientist James Glaisher with Jones starring as Amelia Wren, a balloon pilot. In 1862 they embarked on an extraordinary journey to discover the secrets of the heavens. In the process, they fly higher in an open balloon than anyone ever has, before or since. Their discoveries are breathtaking, but the more they ascend, the bigger the battle for survival becomes.
The film is set to be directed by Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders), with Jack Thorne (Harry Potter And The Cursed Child) penning the script. Cameras are set to role in London come Spring 2018, and the film will be produced by Mandeville Films’ Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman.
There aren’t many films revolving around hot air balloon rides, let alone ones based on true stories, so this has the potential to be interesting.
Redmayne has sort of fallen away since his Oscar-winning role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, while Jones has disappointingly too often been cast in rote supporting roles, so both are in need of a modest hit and this could be the kind of feel-good, easy-going project to get them back on track.
