Eli Roth, fresh off completing his remake of Death Wish, has signed a deal with Amblin Entertainment to direct The House With A Clock In Its Walls, with Jack Black lined up to star.
The film will be an adaptation of the 1973 John Bellairs‘ book, which was illustrated by the aptly named Edward St. John Gorey, as part of a twelve part series. It tells the tale of a recently orphaned ten year old who uncovers a world of hidden passageways in his uncle’s old house that may lead to danger.
With Black fresh off Goosebumps, Roth perennially hanging around his beloved horror genre, and Supernatural creator Eric Kripke set to write the script, this sounds like a perfect team to adapt the gothic mystery. Production is looking to begin this autumn, and it’ll be interesting what sort of tone the eventual film takes. A genuine gothic adaptation from Roth could be very exciting.
Until then, Roth’s Death Wish remake starring Bruce Willis will be released Wednesday, November 22.
