Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan will lead John Patrick Shanley’s adaptation of the Broadway musical Outside Mullingar. Other actors who have joined the cast include Jon Hamm, Dearbhla Molloy and Christopher Walken.
US film company Bleecker Street and Lionsgate UK have acquired the distribution rights to Wild Mountain Thyme, a film adaptation of the Broadway hit Outside Mullingar created by Academy Award-winner John Patrick Shanley.
Shanley will direct the film, which is set in rural Ireland and follows the story of Anthony and Rosemary, star-crossed lovers, whose families are involved in a dispute over a path of land dividing their farms.
Emily Blunt, recently seen in the new Marry Poppins film, and Jamie Dornan, known for his role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades Of Grey series, are cast as two leading characters. Wild Mountain Thyme also features Christopher Walken, who plays Anthony’s despotic father, and Dearbhla Molloy, cast as Rosemary’s mother.
The English screen and stage actress Holliday Grainger was originally supposed to play Jamie Dornan’s love interest in the upcoming Irish romance, but eventually she was replaced by the BAFTA-nominee, Emily Blunt.
The production of Wild Mountain Thyme is scheduled to start on September 30 in Ireland.
