‘Emily The Criminal’s John Patton Ford Developing Comedic Thriller ‘Huntington’

On the heels of his well-received Aubrey Plaza-led feature directorial debut Emily the Criminal, John Patton Ford is teaming with StudioCanal and Blueprint Pictures for his next project, a comedic thriller titled Huntington.

The film is being described as a dark, funny, and highly entertaining satirical thriller with an exciting role for a male star. It tells the story of a super-rich upstate New York family and its young outcast, who hatches a murderous plot to work his way back into the family, in order to regain his birth right and inherit their fortune.

Sources tell Deadline that Ford is currently meeting with actors for the project.

The timing is apt for Ford, who just this past weekend landed the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay for Emily the Criminal, which also counted Best First Feature amongst its nominations. The film, an absorbing capitalist critique, was arguably one of the biggest indie hits of last year. Anything that Ford chooses to make next should be met with excitement.

Other upcoming StudioCanal titles include recent Sundance premiere Cat Person, as well as Sam Taylor-Johnson‘s Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black. Blueprint Pictures are best known for producing all of Martin McDonagh‘s films, as well as BBC One/Prime Video series A Very English Scandal.

We’ll wait and see which male star grabs the exciting role at the heart of Huntington. Production on the film is expected to commence sometime later this year.
