Emma Stone and director Yorgos Lanthimos are teaming up once again. Having already starred in the filmmaker’s Oscar-winning comedy The Favourite, and recently wrapped production on next film Poor Things, Stone is now on board – alongside Margaret Qualley, Willem Dafoe, and Jesse Plemons – to star in And, Lanthimos’ next film.
Lanthimos has penned the movie alongside Efthimis Filippou, and Film4 will co-produce alongside Searchlight Pictures. Unfortunately plot details are completely under wraps, but judging by Lanthimos’ career output so far – a mix of dark comedy, uncomfortably sinister plot points, and provocative absurdism – it will be another memorable experience.
David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield, the presidents of Searchlight Pictures, said about the project:
“Working with Yorgos continues to be a highlight for us at Searchlight, and this is yet another truly original project that sets his work apart. Working again with Emma, Willem, Jesse, and Margaret, as well as Element and Film4, is just icing on the cake.”
While we don’t know much about And, there are some details on Poor Things, which is expected to premiere in 2023. It’s based on Alasdair Gray‘s 1992 novel of the same name, where upon drowning herself to escape her abusive husband, a woman has her brain replaced with the brain of her unborn child with the help of her father. Never change, Yorgos.
Production has concluded on that film, and is moving quickly on And, which is scheduled to go in front of the cameras next month. Filming will take place in New Orleans.
