Eva Green and Kathy Bates have signed on to star in sci-fi thriller A Patriot. Currently in pre-production, the film will be up for sale during the upcoming Cannes film festival. The film will be directed by Dan Pringle, with Toby Rushton and Pringle penning the script.
The story takes place within a future authoritarian state that has walled itself off from a world ravaged by climate chaos and resource wars. Protagonist Border Corp Captain Kate Jones (Green) is fighting to defend the purity of the population, until she makes a discovery that raises doubts in the authorities she has pledged her allegiance and life to protect.
Ed Skrein – who recently agreed to play the villain in Disney’s Maleficent sequel – has also signed on to appear in the film, although it’s currently unclear what roles he and Bates will occupy.
Pringle and Rushton are two under the radar filmmakers who have mostly worked on limited budget British films, although Rushton has done some script work on films like Welcome To The Punch and Monsters. This is a pretty good cast put together for their chance at a big break, and it’ll be interesting to see if the film garners any intrigued takers at Cannes.
