Paramount has released the first full trailer for Darren Aronofsky‘s highly-anticipated mother!. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem as a couple whose lives begin to unravel following the introduction of some uninvited guests into their home.
This isn’t Aronofsky’s first horror film by any means, as he’s directed Black Swan in the past as well as Requiem For A Dream, which is certainly some kind of horror film. mother! though, judging by the trailer, might be his most traditional horror film, as the clip above suggests more immediate terror than the psychological tension that permeated some of his previous darker work.
While, fortunately, the trailer doesn’t reveal too many details of the plot, it does still leave us a little in the dark as to what the film is actually about. Considering its release date, perhaps Paramount is considering making an awards run similar to Black Swan, which picked up a Best Actress Oscar for Natalie Portman.
As it’s Aronofsky, there’s likely much more than meets the eye and this enigmatic film that has been clouded in mystery for a while probably has something interesting up its sleeve.
Alongside Lawrence and Bardem, the film stars Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson and Kristen Wiig. The film opens in cinemas on Friday, September 15.
