The trailer for The Devil’s Candy has arrived, some would say too late. The film premiered at festivals a few years ago so it’s never a great sign that it’s not getting a release until now, which is especially surprising considering director, Sean Byrne, had success with another horror film, The Loved Ones.
The trailer, however, looks promising. Byrne must have been engorging on Rob Zombie films when he shot this, as it combines the grindhouse, sleazy, heavy metal approach Zombie has found success with and mixes it with satanic overtones. The trailer deserves credit simply for the fact that it refuses to hold its audiences hand and reveal practically everything about the film, as many trailers are want to do these days.
The film stars Ethan Embry, Shiri Appleby, Kiara Glasco, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Craig Nigh and Marco Perella. Check out the trailer below.
As long as the film remains somewhat indebted to its Rob Zombie homage, it’ll probably be pretty good. If it goes down the route of other recent films with the word ‘devil’ in the title – I’m specifically thinking of the atrocious The Devil Inside here – then we might have a problem.
