The first trailer for Serenity has arrived online. The film is a thriller that stars Oscar winners Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, with the former playing a fishing captain who leads tours off of a tropical island, whose life is upended when his ex-wife (Hathaway) arrives and asks him to murder her abusive husband.
The film hails from Steven Knight, who previously directed the Tom Hardy thriller Locke, and has also scripted Eastern Promises and Peaky Blinders. The trailer below has echoes of Alfred Hitchcock and also contains plenty of sinister undercurrents. The clip does a good job of generating intrigue for a film that likely has more to it than its synopsis suggests.

McConaughey and Hathaway sharing the screen should at least draw a solid audience to this. The film also stars Djimon Honsou, Jason Clarke, Jeremy Strong and Diane Lane. It is scheduled to hit cinemas Friday, October 19.
