First Trailer For Michael Bay’s Netflix Debut ‘6 Underground’ Arrives | Film Trailer

Netflix has released the first trailer for 6 Underground, Michael Bay‘s latest big-budget action film. The film stars Ryan Reynolds and follows six billionaires who fake their own deaths to form a secret vigilante squad that takes down notorious criminals. Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the script.

The trailer above is quintessential Bay. The huge action setpieces, the impressive locations, the twirling hero shots and yes, scantily clad women. If Netflix wanted a Bay film, it looks like they’ve got one.

However, the film actually looks potentially promising. Now removed from the shackles of the Transformers franchise and its fresh CGI hell, Bay – who’s undeniably always been an excellent director from a technical standpoint – looks to have crafted an expensive, expansive original action film more akin to his earlier work.

For those that have always found Bay fascinating in a morbid sort of way, this is good news.

The budget was reportedly around $125 million, but you could be forgiven for guessing higher. This thing looks expensive. What’s interesting is how Bay’s typical bombastic cacophony of action will play on the smaller screens of Netflix streaming. Say what you want about Bay, but his films are made for the big screen.

We’ll wait and see if Netflix gives 6 Underground a brief theatrical release, but most will still be watching at home. Will watching a film like this on a smaller screen affect the experience? Or will the ubiquitous nature of Netflix lead to more people seeing an original blockbuster?

Starring alongside Reynolds are Dave Franco, Mélanie Laurent, Adria Arjona, Ben Hardy and Corey Hawkins. The film hits Netflix on Friday, December 13.
