First Trailer For Netflix’s ‘Spenser Confidential’ Reveals Latest Mark Wahlberg-Peter Berg Collaboration | Film Trailer

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for the upcoming action-comedy, Spenser Confidential. The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Winston Duke, with the former as an ex-cop recently released from prison who has to team up with his new roommate to take down some criminals.

The trailer is pretty forgettable, but what’s surprising is that this is the latest collaboration between Wahlberg and director Peter Berg. The duo usually team up on true story dramas such as Patriots Day, Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon. This is something a little different, although the one aspect that remains the same is how very Bostonian the whole movie looks.

Spenser Confidential looks like the kind of easily consumable film Netflix excel at. Yes, they do have their magnificent awards contenders in the form of The Irishman and Marriage Story, but 10 months of the year this is the kind of movie they like to put out. Easy to watch – probably on your phone – and something that’s forgotten an hour later.

Maybe the trailer is doing the film a disservice. It’s possible that the interesting cast – which also includes Alan Arkin, Post Malone, Marc Maron and Iliza Shlesinger – can elevate this into something more. We’ll see when the film hits Netflix Friday, March 6.
