Universal Pictures has released a trailer for their upcoming sex comedy, Blockers, which stars John Cena, Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz as a trio of parents who discover their kids have made a pact to lose their virginity on prom night. They then do everything in their power to stop it from happening, leading to many raunchy and strange moments.
The clip below doesn’t blow you away with laughs and looks to be pretty standard – although it’s always hard to tell the quality of comedies from their trailers, as you’d hope all the best jokes aren’t in the trailer – but it’s good to see three talented comedic actors get a chance to lead a film.
It’s also worth noting that Blockers is directed by Pitch Perfect screenwriter and 30 Rock alum Kay Cannon, and since it’s almost always men directing these typically raunchy comedies, it will be interesting and refreshing to see what a female POV brings to this material.
Alongside the leading trio, the film also stars Kathryn Newton, Geraldine Indira Viswanathan and Gideon Adlan. Hopefully Blockers can overcome its sort of one-note premise and be a memorable comedy. It hits cinemas Friday, April 6.
