Summer 2021 will see the return of M. Night Shyamalan to the big screen with his new psychological thriller named Old for Universal Pictures. The premiere is scheduled for July 23 and it was originally planned to be released on February 26 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Old tells a story of a family who spend their holiday on a tropical beach. Suddenly they realize that this beach makes them age rapidly and reduces their lives into one single day. The thriller was inspired by a graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters.
The movie stars Gael Garcia Bernal, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Aaron Pierre, Alex Wolff, Vicky Krieps, Abbey Lee, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ken Leung, Rufus Sewell, Embeth Davidtz and Emun Elliott.
Shyamalan directed and wrote the script for the movie, and he produced the film with Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock. The film was shot during COVID-19 restrictions, with production taking place in the Dominican Republic in October 2020.
As a matter of fact, the deal between Shyamalan and Universal Pictures was announced back in October 2019. According to this deal, Shyamalan was obliged to write, direct and produce two thrillers. The first one is, obviously, Old. The second one is still unknown but planned to be released in 2023. Well, for now let’s watch a trailer for Old and get ready for this summer!
