The anticipation towards Warner Bros‘ R-rated all-female DCEU team-up Birds Of Prey has been heating up over the last few months, especially after it was confirmed that Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez and Ewan McGregor would all be joining Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in the ensemble.
But it sounds like we’ve all been anticipating a film with a slightly different title than expected.
The film is still named Birds Of Prey, but in perhaps a nod to Birdman‘s outrageously long title from a few years ago, the full title is Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn). If you’re unconvinced and are thinking that this is surely some sort of hoax, Robbie herself is the one who revealed the title on her Instagram:
The title might be a hint as to where director Cathy Yan and co. will take the story. The “emancipation” part of the title perhaps hints at Quinn freeing herself from the domestic clutches of the Joker, despite the finale of Suicide Squad seeing them ride off together. It also implies that Quinn will likely be the major focal point of the movie despite its ensemble nature.
All we really know regarding the plot right now is that McGregor’s Black Mask will be hunting for the young Cassandra Cain, to be played by Ella Jay Basco. There will be plenty of time for more details to be revealed as Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) is not due to hit cinemas until February 7, 2020.
