Universal Pictures has released the full trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and there’s certainly an even larger abundance of dinosaurs this time around. The story will follow Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard‘s characters returning to Isla Nublar in the hopes of evacuating some dinosaurs from the island, which is about to be eviscerated by an erupting volcano.
It’s always tricky to create sensible character decisions in sequels like this. Why would Pratt and Dallas Howard’s characters return to an island that caused them so much terror last time around? It’s implied in the trailer that Pratt returns because he helped train and raise Blue, while Dallas Howard is very involved in protecting the rights of dinosaurs.
Whether those reasons would make them want to put their lives in immense danger is up for debate, but since this is a franchise about humans and dinosaurs interacting, I guess we can suspend our disbelief a little. The rest of the trailer looks incredibly hectic, and with less scene setting needed this time around, is looking like it will really lean into the craziness.
J.A. Bayona replaces Colin Trevorrow in the director’s chair, though Trevorrow co-wrote the screenplay with Derek Connolly and served as an executive producer. Alongside Pratt and Dallas Howard, the film stars James Cromwell, Justice Smith, Ted Levine, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, BD Wong, and a returning Jeff Goldblum.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens in cinemas June 22, 2018.
