Gina Rodriguez & Zachary Levi Sign On For Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Spy Kids’ Reboot

Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi have signed on to play the adults in the family of Robert Rodriguez‘s Spy Kids reboot. They’ll be joined by child actors Everly Carganilla and Connor Esterson for the film which is being developed by Skydance and Spyglass for Netflix.

This installment of the franchise is set after the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful game developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, leading them to become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.

Rodriguez will write, direct, and produce the film, which will mark his second collaboration with Netflix following the success of 2020 family film We Can Be Heroes. Racer Max will also co-write the script, with Nick Nesbit serving as Netflix’s creative lead on the film.

Spyglass successfully relaunched Scream last year and are currently working on a Hellraiser reboot for Hulu, so they look to be all in on reboots. Netflix are also focusing on more family-oriented films with projects like fantasy adventure Slumberland, sequel Enola Holmes 2, and fantasy The School For Good And Evil all coming soon.

Rodriguez – Gina, not Robert – recently landed the lead in sitcom Not Dead Yet, and has been tapped to star in Amazon series Last Known Position, based on the podcast of the same name. Levi was recently seen portraying NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Kurt Warner in American Underdog, and is set to reprise his lead role in Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, which arrives in December.
