French Metal band Gojira have released another song from their forthcoming album Fortitude, set to release on April 30 via Roadrunner Records.
“Into the Storm” is the fourth single from their upcoming album. Previously they released “Another World”, “Born for One Thing” and “Amazonia”. Fortitude will be their first album in five years following their 2016’s Grammy-nominated LP Magma.
The frontman -vocalist and guitarist – Joseph Duplantier explain their new single: “This song is infused with the concept of civil disobedience. Acting accordingly with our deepest wisdom and standing for what is precious and good in this world.
The only possible revolution is the one that blossoms from within us. Change will come from individuals. Laws are meant to be bent and shaped to our vital needs. Laws will follow.”
The beginning of the song seems like occult black metal energy but after a few seconds, we can hear the drums before some tremendous riffages rejoin the melody as well. For the chorus, we have something a little bit more melodic with no riffs and it stays stuck in your head for a while. After listening to that song -quite a few times- we are only asking to see that live in concert to be able to feel its entire energy!
The band’s previous single “Amazonia” was released on March 26 and was also accompanied by brilliant fundraising to help The Articulation Of Indigenous People Of Brazil (APIB). Of course, another purpose was also to raise awareness about the environmental crisis in the Amazon.
“We don’t want to just release a song called Amazonia – we want to do something on top of that. We feel a responsibility as artists to offer a way for people to take action,” added the frontman.
According to the metal Titans, Fortitude will be a collection of songs that will urge people to imagine a new world and, of course, to make it happen. They laid the foundation for their upcoming album last year with the surprise drop of the single “Another World”.
NPR has hailed the track as “an apocalyptic banger” and Stereogum has proclaimed “Gojira are one of this century’s most important underground metal institutions.”
In the meantime, Fortitude was voted by fans as the #1 release on Revolver‘s “Most Anticipated Album of 2021.” And we are counting the days till then!
Gojira is a French heavy metal band that was formed in 1996 under the name of Godzilla – the name changed in 2001. They are known for their spiritual and environment-themed lyrics. Fortitude will be their seventh album.
