Gugu Mbatha-Raw & Edgar Ramirez To Star In ‘Nobody’s Heart’

Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Edgar Ramírez have signed on to star in Nobody’s Heart, a romantic drama that will be directed by Isabel Coixet. WestEnd Films has launched international sales on the film, which will be presented to buyers at the virtual American Film Market this week.

The film is an adaptation of William Boyd‘s short story Cork, based on the life of celebrated Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. Set in Lisbon in the 1930s, the movie revolves around a new widow named Lily who inherits her husband’s cork factory, and begins to form an unexpected relationship with his enigmatic co-worker.

This ignites repressed imagination and passion, and leads her to discover unknown truths about both herself and her late husband. Coixet, who has had plenty of success directing intimate dramas such as My Life Without Me and Elisa & Marcela, said in a statement:

“This is a fascinating, twisted and sexually charged love story between two characters sharing a unique passion with the background of Portugal in the 1930s. After reading William Boyd‘s script, I completely fell in love with the story and I know there’s a hunger out there for stories like Nobody’s Heart.”

Maya Amsellem, managing director for WestEnd Films, added: Nobody’s Heart is a rich, evocative and moving drama, and we know Isabel Coixet will elevate the film even further with her eye for nuance and beauty. At WestEnd, we have a continued focus on female-centric narratives through our WeLove brand and this is a great example of the type of story audiences want to see more of.”

Mbatha-Raw is a great actress who remains under the radar mostly because she’s avoided big franchise tentpoles. Her 2020 consisted of fantasy film Come Away, feminist drama Misbehaviour, and British drama Summerland.

She’s also got main roles on The Morning Show and Loki, while she’s on board for HBO Max miniseries The Girl Before and thriller series Surface.

Ramírez recently had main roles in Disney’s Jungle Cruise and comedy Yes Day, although is probably best known for playing the lead in The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story back in 2018.

He’ll next be seen in action spy film The 355 and Eli Roth‘s film adaptation of the Borderlands video game franchise.
