Harrison Ford & Helen Mirren To Star In ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘1932’

Yellowstone has already become one of the most successful shows on American TV, so it was no surprise when another spinoff – titled 1932.

1883, the first spinoff, has already been renewed for a second season  – was announced a few months ago. What is surprising, and should make heads turn, is that it has cast Hollywood legends Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the lead roles.

Details about the show are completely under wraps right now, but Yellowstone was created by Taylor Sheridan (Hell Or High Water, Wind River). It’s a contemporary western that follows the struggles of the Dutton family, led by Kevin Costner‘s John Dutton, as they try to keep control over the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States.

The immense success of the show has already led to the creation of 1883, a prequel that stars Sam Elliot. So 1932 will be the second spinoff, and Yellowstone looks to quickly be following in the footsteps of another show that garnered big numbers in the US – The Walking Dead – and cashing in by becoming a whole universe.

However, The Walking Dead spinoffs didn’t have the star power of Ford and Mirren at their disposal, so this is a major coup for the franchise. Yellowstone fans would have been interested in the show anyway, but this could lead to new fans tuning in as well.

Ford will next be seen in the fifth Indiana Jones film that’s been delayed multiple times, but is currently due to arrive in 2023. Mirren has three films coming up; war drama White Bird: A Wonder Story, superhero film Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, and a biopic about former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir.

There’s currently no release date for 1932, but there will no doubt be plenty of news and rumours to come with Ford and Mirren on board. The fifth season of Yellowstone is currently in production.
