How ‘The Hobbit’ Films Stopped Evangeline Lilly From Retiring | Film News

Cast as Kate Austen in the series Lost, Evangeline Lilly rose to fame early on in her career. After the six-year-run of shooting for Lost, Evangeline Lilly spoke out about her relationship with acting. Stating that she felt “very uncomfortable” being thrown into the Hollywood limelight so suddenly. Consequently, after filming a few blockbuster films such as The Hurt Locker and Real Steel, she was set to retire from acting.

With Evangeline Lilly almost out of Hollywood for good, an unexpected call from Peter Jackson was about to change her career plans. Being offered the role of Tauriel in The Hobbit, Lilly was torn on whether to accept Jackson’s offer. After careful consideration, Lilly decided to follow Jackson to New Zealand.

Not knowing how this will change her perception on acting, Lilly found herself loving her time living in New Zealand whilst feeling part of a loving family. It was this experience that made her realise that acting is about her mind-set and that it can actually be fun!

After coming out of a major franchise, she entered yet another one. Getting involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lilly was cast as Hope van Dyne in Ant-Man and is set to return in Ant-Man and The Wasp.
