Idris Elba To Star In Survival Thriller ‘Beast’ From ‘Everest’ Director | Film News

Idris Elba has signed on to star in the survival thriller Beast, which will see Baltasar Kormakur (Everest) direct from a script penned by Ryan Engle (Rampage), based on an original idea by Jaime Primak-Sullivan. If that’s too much behind-the-scenes stuff, all you really need to know is this: Elba will be running from a killer lion. Sold?

That is pretty much all the plot details we have, but we do know that the film is reportedly in the vein of The Shallows and Crawl, except instead of a clever shark and a congregation of alligators hunting down our protagonist, this time it’s the aforementioned lion.

Elba vs Lion is pretty much anyone needs to know about this, but if you want to know more about director Kormakur, he’s a veteran Icelandic filmmaker who previously directed the Mark Wahlberg movies Contraband and 2 Guns.

He then seemingly found his niche with survival thrillers Everest and the Shailene Woodley/Sam Claflin drama Adrift. This could complete his thematic trilogy.

Elba has a bunch of good stuff lined up. He’ll soon be seen as Bloodshot in James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad and in the indie drama Concrete Cowboy.

He’s also slated to star alongside Tilda Swinton in George Miller‘s ambitious fantasy romance Three Thousand Years Of Longing, which no one knows what to expect from. He also recently signed on to star in a romantic spy thriller for Apple as well.

But will any of those other projects contain killer lions?
