Get ready to say goodbye to two of your favourite agents (possibly), as Agent Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) prepare to spin-off into their own show. Marvel’s Most Wanted for all intents and purposes was dead at the starting line when back in April, ABC studios decided not to go ahead with their planned spin-off of their flagship Marvel show Agents of Shield. But now word from Variety has it that Shield producers Jeff Bell and Paul Zbyszewski will serve as showrunners and executive-producers on the show that they created, which as it turns out, might not exactly be a spin-off after all.
As Variety explains, “Insiders say the series is not a spinoff, per se, but rather an entirely new project solely focused on the two characters to continue their story”, which means that show may serve as a mid-season series in the same vain as Marvel’s Agent Carter. As a fan of Shield, this is good news given that season 2 improved leaps and bounds over its rocky predecessor, which in no small part is down to the inclusion of Agent Morse and Hunter, whose cantankerous-yet-passionate relationship served as the season’s comic relief but also high drama as Morse’s actions weren’t always black and white as season two’s mid season finale showed.
A majority of the espionage action that Palicki and Blood got to perform, was a refreshing change to the Inhuman storyline that much of the other cast was wrapped up in. It could only be a detriment to Agents of Shield should it lose this aspect of the show if the two actors in fact do leave to concentrate on Marvel’s Most Wanted. With details of the show yet to be made public, it is unknown how Morse and Hunter’s escapades will begin but when it does, it’ll be interesting to see how ABC handles both series and what direction it will take.
