Is ITV‘s Jekyll and Hyde star Tom Bateman about to step into James Bond‘s brogues? In a recent interview with The Really Useful Theatre Group, Bateman was keeping schtum about an upcoming project. He teased “(F)or the first time in my life, I’m not allowed to talk about … But I can’t wait for it”!

Bateman seems to be flourishing in his dual role for the ITV show, alternating with ease between being smooth Dr Jekyll and wild Mr Hyde. Getting into all sorts of scrapes as Mr Hyde, the 26 year old actor pulls off his fight scenes convincingly. Despite saying he describes himself as a “potato-faced actor”, Bateman is setting hearts aflutter in the teatime treat: he’s already been dubbed as the new Poldark after Aidan Turner‘s sexy turn in the BBC 1 reboot.

Bateman, a seasoned theatre actor, first found fame in last year’s stage production of Shakespeare In London. He’s currently treading the boards with national treasure Dame Judi Dench in The Winter’s Tale at the Garrick Theatre, London, which runs until January 16, 2016. And if you can’t get hold of a ticket for that, fear not because Bateman is also appearing in Harlenquinade at the same theatre, until January 13, 2016.

Watch this space to find out if Bateman really is cast as the new Bond.
