Jack Black and American network ABC have teamed up to develop an ensemble single-camera comedy revolving around a small town with a serial killer on the loose.
Interestingly titled Boring, Or, the show will follow Jonna, a police officer attempting to stop the killing while the rest of the town is determined to not let the serial killer and mounting dead bodies affect their day-to-day lives.
Stephen Soroka (The Upright Citizen’s Brigade) will pen the script for the comedy in addition to serving as supervising producer, alongside Black’s Electric Dynamite banner.
No casting announcements have been made nor has a release window been set yet. The central idea for the show – people not being that bothered with serial killing as long as it doesn’t affect them – is a good one and should be able to mine plenty of laughs out of with the right script.
Inherently with any project balancing comedy with darker themes, finding the right tone is key or it risks being too much of one side and losing the balance which made in intriguing in the first place.
With Netflix’s fantastic Mindhunter receiving acclaim, and Amanda Wyss‘ Triggered now making its way to screens, here’s another show about a mass murderer to quench our strange thirst for killing and death, only this time with added laughs.
