Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to star in heist thriller Cut And Run, which New Republic Pictures has secured the rights to after a bidding war. Gyllenhaal will play the ring leader of a group of thieves who spend their time stealing from super-yachts and escaping on high-powered speed boats.
John Glenn (Eagle Eye, Law Abiding Citizen) is writing the script and also producing, as will Gyllenhaal through his Nine Stories Productions.
Nine Stories recently signed a first look deal with New Republic and are also working on Michael Bay‘s thriller Ambulance, starring Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, which arrives in April.
Gyllenhaal has a number of other projects in the works, including currently filming thriller The Interpreter, while he has an adaptation of video game Tom Clancy’s The Division, drama Suddenly, and Prophet, all in pre-production.
Considering he just starred in The Guilty, has Ambulance coming up, and is now signed on for Cut And Run, Gyllenhaal seems to be entering a bit of an action phase of his career after spending most of it in more brooding roles.
Little else is known about Cut And Run right now. We’ll wait and see who signs on to direct.
