Jennifer Lopez & Owen Wilson To Star in Romantic Comedy ‘Marry Me’ | Film News

Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson have signed on to star in the romantic comedy Marry Me, for STX Films. The plot revolves around a pop star bride, who ditches her lying groom at the altar in front of thousands. In the spirit of “the show must go on”, she picks a random man in attendance and goes through with the ceremony.

If that sounds a little strange, then you’re right. The film will be based off the high concept graphic novel by Bobby Crosby. John Rogers and Tami Sagher wrote the script, while Harper Dill has penned the rewrite. Kat Coiro will direct the film. She’s helmed multiple episodes of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, so she should have a knack for making high-concept absurdity hilarious.

STX is billing the film as a mix between Notting Hill and The Proposal, stating “it will lift the curtain on celebrity, social media, and the merits of modern marriage”. Lopez and Wilson are an unusual pair on paper, but could be a perfect comedic match. It will also be interesting if Lopez plays off her own celebrity persona, as she just got engaged for the fourth time.

Wilson, despite having a predominantly comedic career, hasn’t actually starred in many romantic comedies. He’s usually appeared as the goofier sidekick opposite a straight man, so it will be fun to see him play the male lead here. STX chairman Adam Fogelson said of the casting:

“Owen is a hilarious and charismatic addition to this film, and the perfect person to play opposite Jen in a role that was quite literally made for her”. He also called Marry Me “a funny and endearing project”.

There’s no word yet on when Marry Me will head into production. But Lopez can next be seen in another STX film, Hustlers, which hits cinemas in September.
