The IT: Chapter Two trailer may have just arrived, but Jessica Chastain is already looking ahead to another exciting project. She’s set to star alongside Andrew Garfield in Fox Searchlight’s televangelist drama, The Eyes Of Tammy Faye.
The duo will play Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, televangelists in the 70s/80s who rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and a theme park. Once revered for their message of love and acceptance, financial issues, scheming rivals, and a sex scandal tore their marriage apart and their empire crumbled.
Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) is directing from a script by Abe Sylvia (Dirty Girl). The film will be based on Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato‘s acclaimed documentary of the same name.
Chastain and Garfield teaming up for a story this fascinating should be a recipe for success. Both are magnetic screen presences and have turned into critics favourites over the years.
Chastain has both IT: Chapter Two and X-Men: Dark Phoenix lined up, plus she just wrapped on Tate Taylor‘s revenge thriller, Eve. Garfield’s beguiling Under The Silver Lake recently failed financially but will certainly have legs as a cult classic.
Showalter just wrapped filming on the Paramount comedy The Lovebirds, which stars Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae. He’ll also team up with Chastain once more for a holiday comedy with Octavia Spencer.
