Jessica Chastain is set to star in and produce the character-driven action movie Eve, with Matthew Newton penning the script and also directing. Voltage Pictures will be handling the distribution.
Plot details are mostly being kept under wraps, but sources say that the script follows the titular ruthless female assassin who is hunted by her former employers while trying to finally explain to her family what she does for a living. Chastain will produce alongside her Freckle Films partner Kelly Carmichael, and they said in a joint statement:
“Matthew is wonderfully adept at crafting complex and relatable characters. We’ve been fans of his work and are so thrilled to be partnering with him and Voltage on Eve“. Newton added:
“I have always admired Jessica Chastain’s work. So when I wrote Eve, an intelligent, strong, and incredibly capable character, she was my immediate first choice to bring her to life. I am humbled and thrilled to be collaborating with Jessica and Voltage on the film”.
Newton recently wrote and directed the wonderful but underseen drama Who We Are Now, which starred Emma Roberts, Julianne Nicholson and Zachary Quinto, so now having him team up with one of the best working actors today is very exciting. Chastain is currently filming IT: Chapter Two, and will next be seen as the antagonist in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
