Bird Box, the upcoming adaptation of the 2014 Josh Malerman novel of the same name, has just made some fine additions to its cast. Joining the cast alongside star Sandra Bullock will be John Malkovich and Sarah Paulson, in as yet unknown roles.
Joining the film alongside the two veteran actors will also be Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Danielle Macdonald, Rosa Salazar and Lil Rel Howery.
The film will be directed by Susanne Bier (The Night Manager, Open Hearts) and scripted by Eric Heisserer and will tell the story of:
“A mother and her two young children, who are among a small group of survivors after a mysterious alien force has driven the world’s population to deadly violence. The three must make their way on a terrifying journey — 20 miles in a rowboat — while blindfolded, with nothing to rely on but the mother’s wits and the children’s trained ears”.
It’s easy to assume that many of the new acting additions will play roles as the group of survivors, a few of which are likely secretly alien forces, if horror tropes are to be followed. Either way, these are some great additions to the cast for a film that has plenty of intrigue surrounding it.
Bier hasn’t often dabbled in the horror genre, nor have any of her lead actors, so it will be interesting to see how the film comes together. It’s being produced for Netflix, though there is currently no release date.
