One of the largest infamous hate groups in American history is about to be explored on the middle-sized screen as Amazon Studios has aquired rights to K Troop, which is to be produced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Who may also star, THR speculates).
The Hollywood Reporter stated that the film will be an adaptation from a Slate article detailing the KKK’s iteration and eventual demise, at the hands of Major Lewis Merill.
This could mean serious business for Amazon, who have nabbed the rights for this film months after Netflix failed to get their hands on The Birth of a Nation – a film also set during one of the intensely racially charged era of American history.
It could also mean big things for JGL, as he continues to branch out from in front of the camera since his feature-length directorial debut of Don Jon in 2013. Imagine if he were to produce, star and perhaps even Direct – if the opportunity becomes open to him, and if he wanted to – what a stepping stone that could be for his already eclectically credited career. I guess we will have to just wait and see.
