With the first official trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom expected to arrive on Thursday, we’re all about to get a glimpse at what the sequel to the 2015 billion-dollar reboot looks like.
However, EW have been able to stumble upon some plot details for the film. If you thought a franchise about dinosaurs interacting with humans was crazy enough, it seems the sequel is about to make that idea the least outlandish thing about it.
The sequel is reportedly set several years after Jurassic World, and the film will return to Isla Nublar where a volcano now threatens the lives of the dinosaurs who now roam free in the former park. Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) now attempt to save the dinosaurs from a second extinction. So the dinosaurs are now the heroes too?
Dallas Howard attempted to explain it: “Claire’s founded an organisation, Dinosaur Protection Group, and they’re finding a way to get these dinosaurs off the island. She reaches out to Owen to let him know this is happening. It’s complicated. When you see them at the beginning of this story, you get caught up as to what’s going on, but it’s not what you would necessarily expect”.
So volcanos, a returning Jeff Goldblum, and a dinosaur protection group seem to be setting up this sequel to be a little stranger than the first film. We might get a clearer idea of the plot mechanics on Thursday, but it likely won’t matter too much anyway, as the film will likely crack a billion dollars at the box office no matter what weird stuff the plot throws at us.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is scheduled for release on June 22, 2018.
