The much-anticipated season 2 of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s hilariously heart-breaking Fleabag will see Kristin Scott Thomas and Fiona Shaw gracing our screens.
Both acting powerhouses, the arrival of Fiona Shaw is particularly exciting for Waller-Bridge fans as Shaw, of CBE and Petunia Dursley fame, played M16’s unflappable Carolyn Martens alongside Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer in Waller-Bridge’s 2018 smash hit Killing Eve.
Fleabag season 2 sees Waller-Bridge’s eponymous anti-heroine return in typical messy and uncomfortably relatable fashion along with familiar season 1 faces. The incomparable Olivia Colman reprises her role as Fleabag’s oh so hateable step mum, Hugh Skinner as her hopeless on-off beau Harry, while Sian Clifford returns as her uptight sister Claire and Bill Paterson as her father.
In season 2, we join Fleabag a year after the events, and the shocking reveal, of the first season. Sherlock fans are in for a treat, as Andrew Scott is set to join season 2 as a priest who changes Fleabag’s worldview when she grapples with God (and honey you should see him in a priest’s collar).
Scott along with the rest of the cast attended the first screening of the series at BFI Southbank last night, and despite there being no official air date yet, the excitement is mounting. With Eve and Villanelle returning to TV in April too, Phoebe Waller Bridge’s sharp-tongued and brutally honest television reign shows no signs of slowing down.
Waller-Bridge continues to be bowled over by her success, saying “I can’t believe they let me do this again“. Well we certainly can, and it’s safe to say we’re all waiting on the edge of our seats for when we can get more Waller-Bridge goodness. As Kristin Scott-Thomas herself says: “Phoebe Waller-Bridge cannot be ignored“. Fleabag season 2 will air on BBC Three and Amazon in 2019.
