Recently, the US seems to be a constant plague of mass shootings, most notably the Gilroy shooting on July 28 and both the Dayton and El Paso shootings on August 3. Lady Gaga has announced that she will be helping the communities affected by these shootings, through a classroom funding. She said that it is a way to turn the confusion, frustration, and fury that the shootings provoke in her, into hope for the children.
Lady Gaga’s financial interventions will “fully-fund” classroom projects and, provide books and other supplies for the students in these cities. The donations will come through her charitable organisation, Born This Way Foundation – co-created with her mother in 2011 – in partnership with DonorsChoose.org, a fundraising scheme for US schools.
“I find hope in the work of DonorsChoose.org and I’m proud to partner with them and with Born This Way Foundation to fully fund the classroom project needs in Dayton, OH, El Paso, TX, and Gilroy, CA. 14 classrooms in Dayton, 125 classrooms in El Paso, and 23 classrooms in Gilroy will now have access to the support they need to inspire their students to work together and bring their dreams to life”, the singer said, in a post on Facebook.
In the letter that the singer wrote on Facebook, she also emphasised that the priority is take care on the pupils’ mental health. “We need each other. Don’t turn away”, affirmed Gaga at the end of her post.
