While the upcoming adaptation of The Girl In The Spider’s Web might not have the huge buzz around it that 2011’s American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo had since stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, plus director David Fincher, won’t be returning, it has craftily put together a solid cast that has just got even better.
Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Atlanta) has joined Claire Foy and Sverrir Gudnason in the ensemble, with THR reporting that he’ll be playing an NSA security expert tasked with tracking down Foy’s Lisbeth Salander.
Stanfield has broken out over the past few years as a talented actor with plenty of range, though he hasn’t quite been able to break away from the various supporting characters into the lead roles he deserves. While this is another supporting role, hopefully the likely high profile nature of the film leads him to getting higher profile work himself.
The casting of Stanfield comes just mere weeks before the film is set to begin shooting in Berlin and Stockholm, with Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) helming the project. The film will certainly have a tough time following Fincher’s 2011 outing, which has quickly become acclaimed in certain circles.
Despite no footage yet shot, we won’t have to wait too long to see the finished product, as The Girl In The Spider’s Web hits cinemas this year on Friday, October 5.
