In a recent interview with ShortList, Leonardo Di Caprio sparked curiosity when he admitted that he had the chance to play Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels, role that was eventually taken by Hayden Christensen.

“I did have a meeting with George Lucas about that, yes,’ the actor said. ‘I just didn’t feel ready to take that dive. At that point”. A choice that he should not regret, since the critically acclaimed Gangs of New York, in which he starred, and which started his long collaboration with Martin Scorsese, opened the same year as Attack of the Clones.

Di Caprio also revealed that he passed on playing Spider-Man in the Marvel franchise, later interpreted by Tobey Maguire, and Robin in Batman Forever, eventually played by Chris O’Donnell.

In his words, at that time, the actor was not ready “for anything like that”, he does not exclude playing the superhero one day. Indeed, he told the magazine: “You never know, you never know. They’re getting better and better as far as complex characters in these movies. I haven’t yet. But no, I don’t rule out anything”.

While waiting for him to take on a superhero movie might take a little, the wait for his next movie, The Revenant, is way shorter, with the feature hitting the US theatres on January 8 and the UK ones in January 15.
