On Sunday, Earth Alliance launched the Amazon Forest Fund to help provide aid to the affection region and its indigenous population. It’s an environmental group co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ widow.
Leonardo DiCaprio also announced on Instagram, over the weekend, a pledges of $5 million to help save the Amazon: “The lungs of the Earth are in flames. The Brazilian Amazon – home to 1 million Indigenous people and 3 million species – has been burning for more than two weeks straight”.
Indeed, Brazilian’s space research INPE identified a record-breaking surge in fires in the ‘plunge of earth’. More than one-and-a-half soccer fiels of the rainforest are burned every minute of every day.
Many of the fires are seem to have been set by farmers and ranchers. And as result, the association and G7 Presidents blamed the tacit approval of Brazil’s anti-environmentalist president, Jair Bolsonaro.
Earth Alliance explained that, “Large-scale cattle operations and feed crops – much of it illegal – along with some impacts from logging, are the primary drivers of this deforestation”.
In this way, the association will focus on seeking donations for providing critical resources for indigenous communities. But also to local partners working to protect the life-sustaining biodiversity of the Amazon.
According to experts, the rainforest fire could impact the entire earth population.
