Courtesy of Lionsgate, the official trailer for A Simple Favor has hit the internet. The movie, starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, will open September 14.
The Paul Feig directed flick is a modern thriller in the veins of David Fincher‘s Gone Girl. The official synopsis for the movie follows Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a mommy blogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance from their small town.
In the trailer, Kendrick take the helm in what signal a comeback to a more edgy and dark material for the young actress, after the success of Pitch Perfect series, that has seen her settle into the comedy genre for a while.
In the role of mommy-seeking justice Stephanie, Kendrick should blend in perfectly as she has already demonstrates her versatility with dramas like End Of Watch and Up In the Air.
Blake Lively, who shamefully for many is still the Serena Van Der Woodsen from Gossip Girl, has definitely jumped the gun with this one. After trying out different genres, like the fantasy-drama The Age of Adeline or the shark-thriller The Shallows, Lively has now decided to give a try to a more psychological thriller.
Given that she had quite the training by playing Serena in Gossip Girl (let’s be honest, the whole TV series was mental), Lively is actually a good choice as the stunning, tailored-dressed but mysterious Emily.
As the plot unfolds, we will see what actually hides behind this fancy and martini-drenched thriller that has put two women at the centre of the stage.
