South London soul singer Lu Wright has released her brand new single “Lovely” featuring British rapper and beatmaker Civil!
Released on April 29, “Lovely” is the third track from Lu’s debut EP Notes To Self and follows the singer’s debut single “British Daisy” and her follow-up track “What I Like“.The EP is set for release in. May.
Underpinned by a funk bassline, layered with jazz-soaked harmonies and soothing strings, the “Lovely” song is indeed lovely! Lu’s velvet breathy vocals slide effortlessly through the dreamy soundscape of the track while Civil balances out the track with his masculine and flawless rap verse.
Produced by Jacob Page, “Lovely” shimmers like the soundtrack to a balmy summer’s evening, the song that plays in your headphones while you peacefully admire the sunset after a hot day. Give it a shot and you won’t regret putting it into your summer playlist.
Lu gave a few comments about the fresh-released single: “‘Lovely’ represents a more positive me, looking back through my life. It’s far too easy to dwell on past mistakes and bad life choices, it’s much harder yet far more rewarding to acknowledge your growth and proudly move forward.
‘Lovely’ is less of a song about overcoming hurdles and more of a change in perspective. Whilst the lessons I have learnt are now the foundations of me, I can’t help but sympathise with those going through similar struggles without the benefit of hindsight”.
Lu Wright grew up in a home filled with music, listening to everything from the classic soul/jazz maestros of the ’50s and ’60s, like Nina Simone and Sam Cooke, to noughties Hip hop, RnB and soul outfits such as Outkast, Eminem, Rihanna and Amy Winehouse, this is where her love for songwriting and melody truly began.
Since then, her contemporary influences have aligned with the times, citing Little Simz, Anderson Paak, Maverick Sabre and the Blue Note Re: imagined album as huge sources of inspiration.
