Rihanna made her acting debut in the 2012 action flick Battleship, and while the film itself isn’t one to remember, Rihanna did prove that she has more to offer. Now, she has returned to acting in Luc Besson’s forthcoming sci-fi epic Valerian, and Besson seems very impressed, to say the least.
Besson took to twitter to gush over his actress, writing that, “She is a natural born actress…. Thank you RiRi for this wonderful week!” This is one of many updates from the set, Besson and actress Cara Delevingne have been updating us regularly as production continues.
It has not yet been confirmed who Rihanna portrays in the film, but Besson has been teasing the importance of her role for quite some time. He revealed on Instagram back in October that she plays a pivotal part, “RIHANNA is in VALERIAN!!!! …and she has a big part!! I’m Sooo excited!!!”
Besson has also been very open about how Valerian is the biggest challenge of his career. In May he wrote on Facebook, “I have around 800 days of work ahead of me, plenty of time to be discouraged or feel lonely, so I’m counting on your support, I will try to share my adventure with you as much as I can”.
The film also stars Dane DeHaan, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, John Goodman, Clive Owen, and Rutger Hauer. The film is due for release on July 17, 2017.
