Major Lazer have joined forces with J Balvin for a new single, “Que Calor”. The track also features Dominican dembow artist El Alfa and is accompanied by a music video showing Diplo clad in a cow print suit.
Major Lazer released their last critically acclaimed album Peace Is The Mission back in 2015. The group was then as a trio of Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire, who left earlier this year and was replaced by Ape Drums. Fans are still waiting for Major Lazer’s next full-length Music Is the Weapon to arrive, but its release date hasn’t been revealed yet.
In the meantime, the American hitmakers have collaborated with the likes of Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott. Their latest offering “Que Calor” features contributions from Colombian star J Balvin and Dominican dembow musician El Alfa.
“We’ve collaborated with Latin artists from the very beginning of Major Lazer. I think many Americans forget how much of the Caribbean is Spanish-speaking, and that’s a huge part of our influences”, the group said in an interview with Billboard. “There’s so much energy in Latin music right now, and we love helping bring it back home”.
“Que Calor” is accompanied by a music video directed by Colin Tilley, who is also the man behind Future‘s “Mask Off” and Kendrick Lamar‘s “Alright”. The clip shows the band members move around a dimly-lit room surrounded by a group of female dancers.
J Balvin previously teamed up with Major Lazer in 2017 for “Buscando Huellas”. Earlier this year he dropped Oasis, his collaborative album with Bad Bunny. The two also performed together at the VMAs last month. In March, J Balvin linked up with Rosalia for their hit single “Con Altura”.
