Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Goes 30 Times Multi-Platinum | Music News

Michael Jackson‘s biggest selling album Thriller has broken records since the day it came out, on November 30, 1982. It had the most Grammy wins in one night (eight) in 1984, it spent 37 weeks at Number 1 on the Billboard’s chart, it went platinum within its first year of sales, and it is the best selling album in the music history. Today, it is the first album ever to be certified 30 times multi-platinum from Recording Industry Association of America, meaning that it has sold more than 30 million copies in the US.

Cary Sherman, chairman and CEO of the RIAA, commented saying: “RIAA has awarded gold and platinum records on behalf of the music business for nearly 60 years, but this is the first time an artist has crossed the 30 times multi-platinum plateau. What an exceptional achievement and testament to ‘Thriller’s enduring spot in our hearts and musical history”.
